Aqara is now taking their first steps towards supporting the new Matter home connectivity standard with the release of the new beta firmware update for it’s M2 hub, which is first targeting M2 hubs manufactured in 2022 and sold outside of China.
Aqara is projecting that the process will take anywhere from four to six weeks for all M2 hubs to be updated to version V4.0.0 (beta), while other qara hubs will receive the Matter-enabled firmware in “the following months.”
Following the firmware update over 40 Zigbee based devices from Aqara will then be be accessible via Matter by anyone that activates it, which can be done by selecting “Bind to Matter”, as the company is aiming to bridge its Zigbee-based devices to Matter using it’s existing hubs.
